You can see some ace bands for free at London’s Lexington tonight for Green Man Rising

Did we mention that it’s free? It’s free.

If you go down to the Lexington tonight, you’re in for… erm… the final of Green Man’s Rising competition to open the festival’s main stage this August.

That’s how it goes, right?

Six finalists – Adults, Bitw, The Hungry Ghosts, Perfect Body, Park Motive & URF – will perform in a ‘battle of the bands’ style face off in front of a “crowd of music fans and a discerning judging panel drawn from the cream of the UK music industry”, apparently. We’ll be honest, Dear Reader, we’re not sure anyone in the UK music industry is truly “discerning”, or we’d probably be doing something else with our lives, but we’ll go with it.

It’s free, so you’ve got no excuse not to go see some of the hottest new talent before they’re – at the very least – a bit bigger than they are now. Bands kick off from 7pm.

Whoever triumphs will get a slot kicking off Green Man’s main stage when the now sold out festival rolls round between 16th and 19th August, meaning they’ll be playing alongside The War On Drugs, Fleet Foxes, King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, John Grant, Grizzly Bear and all sorts of other ace acts. Not bad.

Between now and the festival itself, there’s also Green Man Ahoy!, which will see The Lovely Eggs, Audiobooks, Makeness and Heavenly DJs set sail for a boat party. Taking place on Saturday, 16th June between 2 and 7pm on the River Thames, it’s basically a Boaty McBoaty-gig.

Yeah. We know. Sorry.
