The Lake Stage remains ashamedly empty as Matt Maltese takes to the stage with his band in tow. Dressed in as a suit sent straight from the seventies, flares and all, the confidence he carries himself with is enviable.
Taking his place at the piano, Matt’s opening notes quickly capture the passing crowd’s attention. He effortlessly channels the likes of Lou Reed and Morrissey – a subtle dark edge framing tales of the sadder side of life. When he suddenly breaks into a loud howl during tracks such as ‘Strange Time’, it’s captivating.
Bouncing from jazz influenced piano runs to more four-on-the-floor drum beats, Matt’s music thrills while leaving you with the feeling you’ve been heartbroken. Getting lost in Matt’s world is all a part of his game, and during his triumphant mid-afternoon slot, that world got just a little bit bigger.
