You won’t any more fun at a festival than you will with a set from newcomers SuperGlu. Bounding on to the Lake Stage for their mid-afternoon slot with more energy than the gangs of small children running around on sugar rushes, they’re good to go. That is until bassist Krysta Lynch announces she’s left her guitar picks in the toilet. While they’re retrieved main vocalist Ben Brown leads a solo rendition of Destiny’s Child banger ‘Say My Name’ – which is actually bloody brilliant. Obviously.
Wasting no time, they deviate seamlessly from the impromptu cover into their own material which fires the onlookers into a frenzy. The energy SuperGlu bring is swiftly mirrored by the crowd who fail to remain on terra firma for any longer than a couple of seconds. As the band laugh and jump around the stage, the infectiousness of their live set carries to the wider audience who join the loyal front row.
Proving they may very well have a knack for busting out some top notch covers, another seamless segue sees Ben deliver the opening lines of ‘Mr Brightside’. Breaking out into ridiculously catchy number ‘Dreams’, the chorus ignites the atmosphere of the already electric show with an instant singalong. A penchant for banging melodies and clearly having a good time, SuperGlu refuse to be stuck down in one place for long. It’s a good job too, because they’re certainly going to be making a few new friends over the summer.
