“It’s taken us three years to get here!” Two Door Cinema Club frontman Alex Trimble acknowledges the long road it’s taken them to get to this point after illness saw them pull out of headlining Latitude back in 2014. Talk about making up for lost time. The trio come straight out with banger after banger.
The growth that Two Door have undertaken since the release of 2010’s ‘Tourist History’ is made even clearer when new and old begin to meld together. The first three tracks, including absolute stonker ‘Undercover Martyn’ and the more delicate ‘Do You Want It All?’ show the birth of the melody and pop sensibilities that have served them so well.
Alex has moved from vocalist to straight up frontman; a swagger overcomes him. No longer the unassumingly shy voice, he encapsulates the vivid Two Door of 2017. Tracks such as ‘Now I Can Talk’ and ‘What You Know’ take on new life, while ‘Something Good Can Work’, which garners the loudest crowd reaction, is a consistent behemoth.
It may have taken three years for Two Door Cinema Club to get to the Obelisk Arena, but it was more than worth the wait.
